WordCamp Austin: Day the First

WordCamp Austin was a massive success today. 400 people attended, and we had packed sessions, great conversations, fun and games, and learning galore. People got help with their websites, attendees learned about WordPress security, theming, and coding, and we had a fantastic inaugural YouthCamp. This comes on the heels of a fantastic Contributor Day yesterday and a fun speaker/sponsor dinner at Dave & Busters.

After helping Jen Mylo in her WordPress Contributor Drive during the morning keynote (we signed up 75 new contributors willing to give time back to WordPress!), I gave my first WordCamp presentation ever. My session was “Getting Started with WordPress”, and I was surprised to be talking to a full room. Although making my slides was painful the other day, the talk itself went great. As I learned, having no tech concerns about wifi access (by using screenshots instead of a live connection) was a wise choice, and even with questions from the audience, I finished right on time.

All in all… it was a success! 🙂

And the best part… tomorrow we get to do it all over again!
